I stayed all night with my cousins sometimes when we were little. Sue, one of my cousins and I were about the same age. One night around Halloween, we had an intruder. We were lying in bed talking, when a shadow went by the window where we were sleeping. The intruder looked like a detective in a trench coat and a hat pulled down over his head.

Uncle Jim was still watching television as we crawled into the living room. We told him there was someone outside. Uncle Jim grabbed his shotgun and ran to the back door, flipping on the outside light. The intruder took off running. Uncle Jim fired a shot up in the air.

Sue and I couldn’t sleep much that night. After that sleepover,

I was reluctant to spend the night again.
