When she moved home
So many bins came with her
Stuff crammed in every space
Box after box of hodgepodge nonsense
She wanted to be home
A place of comfort and rest
A place of solace and joy
Everything needed to be sorted
Including this amazing adult daughter
Where would this stuff go?
Does she want to keep it?
Would it be needed at a later date?
How long will she be staying?
So many questions
And very few answers
I quickly assessed a necessary sorting
Of what was important
And what was unneeded
What should be stored for good
And what should be handed forward
Hold on to the memoires
Hold on the excitement
College may not have been in the cards
For this amazing child of ours
But she will find something
That lights a fire in her
That fans the flame of what’s next
But for now we will accept
She is safe and content
Back at home with her family
That loves her deeply
That treasures her presence
Surrounded by excess dirty laundry
Bins upon bins needing to be sorted
It doesn’t have to happen tonight
Probably not even tomorrow
But we will hold her close
And hug her with intention
Just so she knows
This home will always welcome her
Bins and all
