By Amaryllis Loven

I have never been in love with the grandiose
Despite this I saturate our future home
Hopeless eyes scan this glorious disguise
The parties are for no one but you, my prize

The music of the organ bores me immensely
Nothing compared to a voice which captures intensely
I pace upon meaningless adorned balconies
Perhaps they will be meaningful when you dance with me

I recall the night when I knew it was love
I gazed into the eyes of an angel from above
I made a vow that for eternity you would be mine
Of course, I was pulled from you in time

I plan each moment to provoke your return
Fueled by this passion that endlessly burns
This stage is set with flashing lights and shades
Dresses and suits and glitter that descend in cascades

Our eyes will connect through the ocean of decor
You will promise to abandon him and be my love once more
Chased through glamorous courtyards as we did when young
I’ll catch you in my arms when the air is out of our lungs

A second chance, a neighbor to assist
Tea is prepared, I fidget with my suit in your midst
He left us alone and neither of us conceal our smiles
All of the festivities, yet this is our style

You marvel at the grounds which entrap you in a surround
My hope has been fulfilled, I know this now
I finally grasp your soft and hesitant hand
To introduce you to what is our own perfect land

They’ll deem us the greatest story of love ever told
I can reach out to touch it and take hold
The ache will fade, washed away, I breathe in a new age
In control of the pen of life, scribing together each page

We sit for dinner where you will declare this truth
A simple key for us to return to our youth
You let it slip, not our only chance
I worry, as to town, I receive not a glance

Complaints fly of the heat as I watch you pace
My eyes beg your confession to take place
He rose and exposed the reality of my endeavors
I feel our future slip, future fading treasures

You take the wheel to calm your nerves
Your trembling throughout the drive endures
A familiar face appears before our eyes
A violent collision, a fateful demise

I ascend and descend numerous steps, lost in thought
I have known forever that with tragedy we were fraught
I vow to allot to no one but myself the blame
We are a step away from returning to that familiar frame

This reality we now hold is not what I had dreamed
Adulterated with confusion, secrecy as we reconvene
A film reel of this life I retain to replay within my mind
It matches not with what I glean from what this truthful world I find

A boat I have steered towards an incandescent flaming green
Soon the journey of reclaiming the fading past shall cease
A quiet denial for a summer swim
A hear footsteps, my mind sings her name as I collapse in
