By Dorian J. Sinnott

If I could remember the moment we met,

I would ne’er consider each tear of regret–

Was once the ever-flowing pain of lost streams,

Still shattered by the voice, the haunts of my dreams…?

With violet reflections on fresh fallen snow,

You sang her wonders once, so long ago–

My memories still whisper and long for the past,

Heart quakin’ and prayin’ that forever they’ll last…

But when you lay my down in those fields of green,

I remember that smile, sweetest ever seen,

And I prayed at night when you’d fall asleep,

One day your soul the angels would keep.

Derry down… derry down…

Derry down… derry down…

Never such splendor mother earth could create,

Would even God Himself in this beauty partake–?

Have all the oceans He demand to subside,

Lost forever in those never-ending eyes…?

Affection’s selection no matter how absurd,

Never can be broken by one single word–

Bled pulses and notions remind me of missed,

I long to touch again those soft lips I once kissed…

But when you lay my down in those fields of green,

I remember that smile, sweetest ever seen,

And I still prayed at night when you’d fall asleep,

One day your soul the angels would keep.

Derry down… derry down…

Derry down… derry down…

Need not the worry, the longing, the tears,

You, my love, remind me you’ve always been here–

Love, after all, goes on far longer than gold,

Forever and ever, never to grow old…

And when I lay down in those fields of green,

I’ll always remember that smile, sweetest ever seen,

And I can rest safely at night when I fall asleep,

Knowing my love is yours still to keep.

Derry down… derry down…

Derry down… derry down…

Bars are still bars, even if made of gold,

And some things more treasured than any tale untold—

They can keep all their diamonds locked forever in the trove,

For the greatest of all treasures, is the treasure of love…
