By Malachy Moran

I have prepared
a space for you
filled it with
pretty things
shiny rocks and
cuttlefish bones
seagull feathers
and bits of brick
worn flat by the surf.
I have carved all the walls
with inscriptions
snippets of vedas
runic spells.
I have wafted incense
in all the corners
to chase away
any evil spirits.
I have turned about in place
over and over and over again
to trample flat the earth
until it was
just perfect.
