Against the night
by Thomas Page
after Dylan Thomas
“Do not go gentle into that good night”
–Poem of the same name
Poems about your parents are hard to do
Because it is extremely hard to not
Come off in a strange light. Let’s try to go
To nice and pleasant places having gentle
Memories that bring joy that go into
The family scrapbook sitting in that
Drawer below the T. V. in the so good
Part of the house where we sit at night
Uh
I would like to do
Something more than not
Like some who will go
And be not gentle
In theirs poems into
Such metaphors that
There is not a good;
The world stuck in night
But I do
Know it is not
All we know. I go
And try to find gentle
Things that will go into
My poems. Such things that
Will show the good
Even at night
