The woods hate to see me coming at this point
They welcome me yet know what I am up to
I spend far too long roaming known paths
Discovering new mushrooms
Listening to birds call me by name
Each and every time
Something new will catch my eye
A flower in full bloom
The rabbit hopping away quickly
And a deer anticipating my next move
With nothing other than the wind to distract me
The rustle of the leaves on the trees becomes music
Peace is discovered in this sought after realm
Peace is needed more frequently these days
Peace washes over me each and every time
I roam those known paths
Breathing in and exhaling
The fresh air calms my weary heart
My soul is at rest
When the woods wish to restore order
And the sun begins to set whether I like it or not
Back in the direction of which I came
Maybe the woods don’t hate to see me coming
The woods know exactly what I need
