By Laurinda Lind

Cats as from the same
spirit who brought
monsters to mankind,
dinosaurs, diamondbacks,

yet they like to meditate,
they like us to find
with our bare feet
mice they've mauled.

They don't mind
asking for the moon,
as if clawing were
kindness. This

could be a dire
thing, keeping
thoughts as
dangerous as cats.

Laurinda Lind lives in New York’s North Country, close to Canada. A recent poem publication was in Write City Ezine. Her first chapbook is Trials by Water (Orchard Street Press). She worked most recently as a caregiver.
