By Malisa Anne
Blue lake hugged our naked legs
a secret world everyone could see
I made my way into your sight
and took you as hostage.
You gave me as you wish
I gave you as you must.
We burnt down our thrift store fairy tale
You locked my heart in an unappeasable boy
my heart locked eyes
that would launch my demise.
Put our love story on the graves.
Next to the others, wrong time
wrong people, but I know I loved you
even if only for a short time.
I was yours, and you, mine.
The cards of us weren’t of this lifetime
but sometimes, when I blinked hard enough
I could see the words left unsaid.
The chance of living room dancing
stoves on, wine poured
into forever glasses.
Eyes can’t stay closed forever.
My ears yearn to hear that chuckle right before dawn
when your words were tired and sloppy.
I deciphered them like your breath was my first language.
I think about you from time to time
in between heart breaks.
