(An Abecedarian Poem)
Another day starts in this town of mine
beautiful tall trees are all around
chasing each other, two baby squirrels
dogs running around, joy in their eyes
Everybody seems so happy in this town
feather of a bird is on the ground, passage of time
girls are in the playground
hugging the colorful butterflies
In the sky, two birds are singing a love song
just around the corner from us, in a park
kids are jumping in a fountain, up and down
life is so beautiful in this town of mine
mountains in the background, tall and strong
nearby, a lake and a river, full of playful trout
Oh, I so much want to stop passage of time
pause to watch colors of the rainbow in the sky
Questions, I have many of them for God. How to
retain this happiness around? How to keep
smell of roses and lavenders alive? How to
take care of so much beauty that I find around?
Voice of God echoed in my mind. My son,
Wisdom is what you need, search for the truth
Xclude excesses that damage life’s balance
You will find happiness with the genuine love of others
Zen and reflection is the path to reach God
Practice it every day of your life
Dr. Hossein Hakim has a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue

Press, The Ocotillo Review, Rowayat, Academy of the Heart and Mind, October Hill Magazine,
and other publications.
His first poem “Cinema Paradiso” was published in the August 2023 Issue of Ariel
