By Irene Clarke

The paper lantern was filled with love, as it floated in the sky,
All her tears were falling, as she watched her memories fly.
Would the lantern reach the place, where he said he’d wait for her?
She wasn’t sure about anything, the last few days a blur.
There were people all around her to wish her all the best,
But all she wanted was to be left alone, to think of him and rest.
Tomorrow would be different, the lantern would have sailed away,
And grief would start to change a bit, change but always stay.
But tonight, as she watched the lantern fly to her it was release,
She watched him sail away from her, and hoped he was at peace.

Irene has been writing poetry for much of her life, she lives in Australia.  She uses nature, both human and the natural world to inspire her work.
