It is four in the morning and the window is open.
Outside, sirens are wailing in the distance and
There is a crescendo in every burst of air that accompanies
A car racing past my apartment.

As I sit, perched on the ledge of my window sill,
The crisp rush of air stings the exposed skin of my neck
And the cold bites at my knuckles
Each time I flex my hands anxiously.

Inside my apartment, the lights are off.
It is dark behind me, but I do not look back,
Choosing instead to look to the expanse of sky that sits before me.
Tonight, the heavens are decorated—
Stars like gemstones, adorning the beautiful Nyx—
And as I admire it, I feel that she is smiling down upon me.

(It is a bittersweet feeling.)

I find myself wondering if she is smiling upon your freckled cheeks just the same.
I wonder if we are looking out at the same moon and if it is glistening in both of our eyes,
As a reflection of one another.

Note: Title is taken from a line of The Moon Will Sing by The Crane Wives

  1. The statement “She is interested in exploring the morally gray character, both as a reader and writer.” is encouraging to hear.

A good writer will create characters and fit them into an interesting story. A great wirier will create outstanding characters then let them tell a fantastic story.

    Jacqueline is on-track for success.
