The Sun

The Earth’s revolution
around the Sun
Is not a perfect circle
It’s an ellipse
An oval

Which means that
Some days it’s further away
And sometimes we look West and wonder
If it’ll ever rise again
But it comes back
It always does

It’s shine is always there
When furthest from home

We both know
We won’t last forever
One day the sun, too
Will be a dying light

But life on Earth
Carries on
Because the least we can do
Is enjoy the sun’s shine
While it’s still with us

The least we can do is know
It’ll always want to come back to us
Even if, one day,
It finds itself fading away

Whispers

Some secretive woods
To be a whisper, I may
Be aside the trees

Your ears do not turn
Hear the voices in the air
Whispers turn to shout

Whispers in their ears
Come a little bit closer
Secrets left untold

Amid harsh whispers
Accompany their sorrows
Fallen amidst smoke

Mysterious poems
Whispered in the chilling wind
Ode to endless gloom

Live for the Sunset

Mother always loved to watch sunsets
Watching the sky turn a brilliant
shade of yellow and orange, such
an impactful yet ephemeral view

Gazing at a scene, nothing can match
As light falls and darkness rise
To form a moonlit view of
rubble and ruin beneath the sky

I embrace the calm and tranquility
as the night succeeds the day
Knowing that some place, somewhere North
Brothers and sisters see the same

Uncles and aunts in the East
They’ll see it too, in just
A few short hours the sun
Will be out of their view

For just a moment the world
Puts everything down, reminding us that
They too, live for the sunset
Passing the tranquil, the beauty around

Not a day goes by without
The gaze of a sunset’s smile
I understand, yet I forget that
They too, have mothers that always
loved to watch the setting sun

They too, live for the sunset
