as i close the door
candlelight flickering
doused by silence
20 years and you
etched in the throes of
a lingering memory.
moments are shards
of glass
shattered upon the shore
seagulls carry my soul
back to shore
basking in the winter sun
i find solace as i slowly
close the door
on what was
Detached
Detached from the dead universe,
born into emptiness, separated
from the chord of life, amniotic
drowning pool, spilled over into
cathartic neurotic streets in which
we dwell and live the dreams of
madmen.
We are detached from the gods,
the universe, nature and each other.
We spend our lifespans staring into
emotionless monitors, overstimulated
with too much information, and not
enough time for human interaction.
We have lost our direction in this cosmic
pantomime.
We have lost our purpose and vision and
love for one another.
We have become shadows of our former
selves, clutching at pitchforks watching the
world burn into oblivion.
Wayne Russell is or has been many things in his time upon this planet, he has been a creative writer, world traveler, graphic designer, former soldier, and former sailor. Wayne has been widely published in both online and hard copy creative writing magazines. From 2016-17 he also founded and edited Degenerate Literature. In late 2018, the kind editors at Ariel Chart nominated Wayne for his first Pushcart Prize for the poem “Stranger in a Strange Town.” Where Angels Fear was his debut e-book, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it was pulled from the publishers’ list of titles
