I am student teaching a senior level class in Washington, DC. They have to write some poems on these prompts. I decided to try all 30 of them. However, I will not say what the prompt was but what it number was.
Prompt #17
“Cranberry”
The tastes of cranberry cocktail bamboozles me
As it skirts on my tongue mixed with ice.
Staining the long academic bibliography
That stretches the length of the gulf coast twice.
The red rubrics, bloodlust of pedagogy
To mark down the grade letters thrice.
The constellation hovers above thee
As the glow of the computer isn’t as nice.
The contradiction of academic writing free
From the cranberry pen forged in Vulcan’s gneiss.
Prompt #18
“Water Bear”
Wherever you may go, there may be a water bear
Who can sun in the brutal heat and bear
The freezing chill all while sitting pretty
Under the microscope in the smaller bitty
Even into the vacuum of space up there.
