The Untranslatable

This is a series of poems of words that do not directly translate into English. I have tried to capture the essence of the word in a poem.

One, in Aristophanes’ model, is two

And two is one

So they say

The human animal is the political

And the social

And the romantic

Longing for communities of many sorts

Where the vestiges of the past

Like crumbs or froths

Linger on the tongue

That will never be tasted again

Except in memory.
