By Marianne Brems
Within the quiet interstices
in our conversations,
small voiceless moments of trust
in sheep’s clothing
bring our humanity together
like nickels to magnets.
Trust that our message
can sustain suspension.
Trust that this suspension
can enhance our message.
Trust that we can stand tall
in our tolerance for silence.
Trust that we can wait
after saying “I hate to tell you, but…”
Discomfort may tug at our eyes,
but if we turn away,
we turn back again.
