By Wanda Morrow Clevenger
there were times
a year or two
here and there
at the housing
when I had a bedroom
to myself, upstairs
facing the Christenson’s
front door
the window fan blared so
behind the headboard
I could talk out loud
in anonymity
I prayed
in the wild whirl
forever it seemed
to be someone else
but the fan was so loud
no one ever heard
