Golden Shovels:

This is a relatively new form that uses a quote’s words as the “end rhymes” of the new poem. Therefore. attributing the original author is very important when titling these poems. I will give proper credit / title for each.

Thought without purpose

by Thomas Page

after William Shakespeare

“It is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury/ Signifying nothing”

–Macbeth

I’m not sure what to call it

When you don’t know what it is

When there seems to be a

Moment that could be told as a tale

Or a story that anyone told

To their mothers and fathers or told by

Something who could call an

Ordinary thing extraordinary. The idiot

In me wants to find something full

To the brim with amazing sounds

Or other senses which may express and

Explain the event with as much fury

That moments deserves, signifying

All that it means to me but it conveys nothing.
